Fashion at Your Fingertips – On Nail Art and Nail Accessories

If there’s one thing that most avid fashionistas agree on, is that style can be both timely and timeless. Sometimes, trends can get outdated and replaced. But most of the time, it can also be revitalized and improved on, becoming the new style on the current generation.

The idea of nail arts may look very modern, with young men and women improving their nail aesthetics beyond the nail polish by adding patterns, accessories, and even small jewelry to accentuate them. However, nail art isn’t entirely a new concept. In fact, it has a long and rich history dating back to ancient times, where people used various materials to decorate their nails.

The Ancient Egyptians were among the first to use nail art, using henna to dye their nails and decorate them with gold and silver. The ancient Chinese also used nail art to denote their social class, using a mixture of beeswax, egg whites, and gum Arabic to create intricate designs on their nails. Eventually, materials like ivory and pearl are also used to adorn and even extend their nails with intricate designs. All of these to denote their status as nobles and upper-class.

The concept of people adorning their fingernails with jewelry ceased during the medieval times, though the Victorian era that revitalized nail art by painting their nails with a simple coat of polish, usually in shades of red or pink.

In the 1920s, the French manicure was popularized, which involved painting the tips of the nails white and the rest of the nail bed with a pale pink or beige color. This style is still popular today and is a classic look for both formal and casual occasions.

In the 1980s, nail art became more extravagant and colorful, with bright neon colors and bold designs. It was a way to express individuality and creativity. The trend continued into the 1990s, with grunge and punk influences, such as black polish, studs, and spikes.

Revitalizing Nail Art in Modern Times

Modern nail art became mainstream in the 2000s, with the rise of social media and the internet. Fashion bloggers and influencers started showcasing their nail art designs, and it quickly caught on. Nail art became a way for people to express themselves and stand out from the crowd.

Celebrities also played a significant role in popularizing nail art. Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga were among the first to sport bold and intricate designs on their nails. It was not just about the color anymore; it was about the artistry and creativity.

The rise of affordable nail art products and tools also contributed to its popularity. Nail art pens, stickers, and stencils made it easy for people to create their own designs at home. Nail salons started offering elaborate nail art services, and it became a new form of self-expression and pampering.

Today, nail art is a multi-million-dollar industry, with countless salons and shops specializing in nail art. There are even competitions and exhibitions dedicated to nail art, where artists showcase their skills and designs.

Choose the Best Form of Nail Art on You

The modern reimagining of nail art has branched out to many forms, from simple designs to intricate patterns. Here are some of the most popular types of nail art.

Stamping – this involves using a stamping plate and a special polish to transfer a design onto the nail. Stamping is a quick and painless process, though accuracy and precision is important so that you don’t damage your nails.

3D Nail Art – As its name suggests, this involves using embellishments such as rhinestones, beads, and glitter to create a three-dimensional effect on your nails. People who do this show off their creativity by creating intricate patterns that can be visually appealing.

Foil Nail Art – A simple way to turn your nails into “jewelry”, foiling involves applying a thin layer of foil onto the nail to create a metallic effect. Some also get fancy with this by applying thin layers of true precious metals like gold and silver.

Water Marble Nail Art – this involves dropping nail polish onto water and creating a marbled effect before dipping the nail into the water. This can even be done using simple nail polish and a bit of unique styling.

Ombre Nail Art – A technique that uses multiple water-based nail polish, this involves blending two or more colors to create a seamless gradient effect. If done correctly, you can even create original blends of nail art that can’t be replicated.

Nail art has a fascinating history, dating back to ancient times. It has since evolved and become a popular trend, with countless designs and techniques to choose from. Nail art is a way for people to express themselves and showcase their creativity. It has become an essential part of the fashion and beauty industry and shows no signs of slowing down.
