Measure the opening — Make sure the frame/groove is clean and measure the width and length.2. Cut the cane webbing — Cut it slightly larger than the opening so you have extra material to work with.3. Soak the rattan/cane — Soak it in water for roughly 10–15 minutes to make it flexible. Don't leave it submerged excessively.4. Position the cane — Center the wet cane over the opening and align the pattern.5. Secure it temporarily — Use clamps or small wedges to keep the cane in position.6. Push it into the groove — Starting from the center and working outward, press the cane into the frame groove using a spline/wedge tool.7. Trim the excess — Once firmly seated, carefully cut away the excess cane around the edges.Install the spline — Apply glue in the groove and insert the spline/retaining strip to lock the cane permanently.8. Let it dry — As the cane dries, it naturally tightens and becomes firm.9. Finish the surface — Trim any loose fibers and apply the appropriate finish if desired.Key tip: Don't stretch the wet cane excessively. It will tighten as it dries, so installing it too tightly can cause the material or frame to deform.finish if desired.
