Solid and dependable Raid array and backup solution. I have this loaded with 4 x 4tb 2.5 ssd (16tb) and 4 x 2tb gen4 nvme (8tb). Using OWC softraid to create and manage two separate clusters, but Apple or Windows native raid works okay, some say a little faster RE Apple if using apfs. It does have an onboard hardware-level Raid config for bays 1 and 2 if you need/want that, but I went for software Raid to combine all 4 front bays as one volume. I setup both ssd and nvme clusters as Raid 0 for speed. I know i know, when drives get cheaper I’ll mirror. Currently backing up a 16tb lightroom library held on an external tb4 raid array to the ssd cluster and an 8tb external tb4 nvme to the nvme cluster. Averaging around 1 Gig a second sustained transfer from tb4 nvme to nvme cluster (I ran it for an hour and it didn’t drop). 16tb ext. Raid array to SSD cluster transfer averages around 600MB a sec. - I thought this would be faster and saturate the full 1 Gig bandwidth due to Raid 0 over 4 drives but meh, it’s fast enough for a backup. Might investigate further. Whisper quiet with solid state drives. Large fan if needed. Would recommend.
