Squash ? A Game of Stamina

Squash is a game played on an indoor court and is played by two people although it can be played by 3 or more people or in the form of doubles. In the game of squash, the ball has to bounce twice on the floor before the opponent is able to return it. The main factor of this game is agility. The sport can be quite brutal, and players need to be very quick with their reflexes.

Each of the players needs to have endurance and recovery to keep the momentum of the game going especially when the squash ball travels at around 270km/hr. While speed is a major factor in this game, it is not just speed that counts. This game also requires a great deal of intelligence and skill. It requires the player to be as shrewd as in the game of chess. You can calculate your shot options within the fraction of a second while also observing your opponent?s position and stance.

Even though the ball needs to hit the front wall, it can also hit the back wall or the side walls before meeting the front wall. In either case, the ball needs to hit the front wall before it bounces on the floor. So, this choice of which wall to hit adds to the complexity of the game and calls for skills so that the players can indulge in tricks to confuse the opponent.

Squash Sport ? A Super Competitive Rally

In squash, one player serves first to trigger a rally which proceeds until one player fails to hit the ball before it bounces twice on the floor or hits the ball out or down. There are a few scoring options when it comes to this game. One is the traditional or international scoring, and the other is the point a rally scoring. Also, the rules can be modified to serve the requirements of the players during a social game.

During the squash serve, the server needs to have at least one foot in the service box to make the server and start play. The server has to directly hit the ball on the front wall between the cut line and the outline to rebound so that the ball bounces in the opposite side of the court behind the short line for the first time. The server shall serve from the alternate service box if he wins the rally. On the contrary, if the receiver is the one who wins the rally then he/she gets to choose which box he/she would like to serve from. In a rally between 2 players, once the server makes the serve, the opponent takes his turn at hitting the ball once it bounces after hitting the front wall. Then the game proceeds with each player taking his turn. For doubles, it is 4 players, and each team takes turns at hitting the ball. The squash sport is played within the large area defined by the outline at the top and the line marking the top of the tin which is at the bottom.
