A microwave oven is a revolutionary invention in appliances that serve modern home kitchens. Its technology makes use of electromagnetic radiation which helps heat food particles quickly as compared to conventional heating methods like gas burners.
As opposed to a flame that heats food items on its surface at first, electromagnetic radiation heats the food from within. The microwave has been primarily designed to heat food quickly but it can also be used for preparing various food items. Other great uses of a microwave are in melting butter and heating water, things that take quite a while, otherwise. Back in the day, microwaves were used mainly in commercial kitchens, but its popularity has now spread across homes and workplace cafeterias. Microwaves are made of several parts. Microwaves & parts include a fuse which is connected to a power cord. The fuse shuts down the oven during a short circuit or overheating. Then there is the high voltage transformer that passes electricity to the magnetron. It is these two parts that regulate levels of electromagnetic radiation that are needed to cook or heat food.
After the magnetron produces the radiation, it is passed through the wave guide device that is present at the top of the microwave cavity. The radiation then finally passes through a revolving stirrer blade and bathes the food which causes the food to heat up. The metal walls of the oven cavity reflect the radiation toward the food ensuring proper heating. As a safety measure, all microwave ovens are equipped with a safety switch which shuts off all microwave energy whenever the door is open.
There are a few different types of microwaves available in the market today. The very first microwave to reach the market was the counter-top microwave oven. Since then, cabinet mounted microwaves and over the range (OTR) microwaves have reached the marketplace as well. With microwaves come various accessories. There are special microwave containers and bowls that are meant to be used when you want to heat food in the oven. These are specially made to cater to microwaves since metal bowls, plates and glasses along with regular ones cannot be used in microwaves since it can be quite harmful. Then there are high-rise and low-rise racks that help with preparing food items. Other accessories include glass plates, microwave plate covers, and splatters with steam vents. Such accessories add to the microwave user experience.
While the benefits of using a microwave oven are many, some of the major benefits lie in the time saved due to the quick heating of food. Moreover, some vitamins are retained when food is cooked or heated in a microwave oven as opposed to a regular oven. This is because regular ovens or burners take much longer to heat or cook food and this lengthy duration not only wastes your time but also kills more nutrients in your food. Moreover, microwaves & parts do not use gas, charcoal or any other renewable energy, so it does not pollute the environment and serves the ecosystem as well.
