The Jeans fabric had been discovered for the first time in Genoa of Italy and Nimes of France. The word jeans had thus been derived from Genes, the Fench term for Genoa. The fabric has gained popularity over the years and now Jeans for Men is one of the most preferred types of clothing used. The fabric is mostly used to make trousers, though shirts and jackets are also becoming common over the years. Often the term could be used only to refer to the blue jeans that had been originally designed by Jacob W Davis. In 1871, he had produced the trousers in partnership with the Levi Strauss and Co. Prior to the patent that they received on 20th May 1873, these fabrics had been widely used in the overalls, trousers, and coats that were constructed from the blue colored denim.
The Jeans for Men had originally been designed for the miners and cowboys due to their toughness. But in the 1950s, these trousers began to get popular among the teenagers, especially in the greaser subculture. The 1960s popularised the fashion item in the hippie subculture. The popularity continued to grow with the punk rock and the heavy metal subcultures taking to them in the 1970s and the 1980s. The historic brands that have been known are Wrangler, Levi's and Lee. Waist overalls made from the fabric had also been used by the US soldiers during the World War II. Before the time, these items became much of a fashion statement, the clothes that were made from these items used to fit quite loosely. Some of the early movies can be said to have introduced the culture to the youth.
The Mens' Jeans are made from fabrics that are quite resistant to abuse. The directors of one of them went on to mention that the lesser these jeans are washed, the better they would become. The jeans have been traditionally dyed using natural dyes like that of indigo. Most of the denim is now dyed with the help of synthetic indigo. More than 20 thousand tonnes of indigo are produced every year for the purpose of dying jeans and only a few grams of the dyes are needed for the trousers.
Due to the fact that Mens' Jeans tend to shrink, the companies started to introduce products into the market that have been pre-shrunk, which meant that they would not shrink after they have been purchased. Thus customers could easily buy the perfect size and came to be known as the 505 regular fit jeans. These jeans would be quite like the 501s but were different on the button-fly. The slim boot fits were also introduced in the market later. One of the variety would sit at the waistline while the other below it.
The Mens' Jeans would also go through processes like sandblasting that would offer the consumers products which would seem a little worn. The process of sandblasting is done with the help of chemicals or by the addition of pumice stone to the washing process. The trousers could also be abraded with sandpaper.
