Hockey is classified into several types. Field hockey, played in many parts of the world such as Asia, Argentina, Europe, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, is the national sport of Pakistan. It is played on gravel, sand, artificial turf, grass, etc. Bandy, quite popular in Russia, is played on a pitch of ice which is of the size of a football ground. Hockey, being an important sport, which supports many league organizations with its huge fan following from various parts of the world, requires a lot of practice for players to gain success. Hockey matches and training sessions require several types of equipment which vary per the kind of hockey being practiced.
New and Amateur players need equipment as per their level of gameplay and regularity. The most important protective gear for a hockey player is a helmet. If you are an adult player, it is recommended that you get a helmet with a full cage. Elbow and shin pads are the second most important equipment while playing hockey games because when you fall, your elbow takes the impact and in most cases, your shin area is hit by the puck or ball. Hence, it is recommended to get pairs of good quality elbow and shin guards. Shin pads should not be too small for an adult. Gloves are mostly selected by players as per their wants as in most cases some want protection from other players, and some want comfort and freedom. It is always recommended to get very comfortable gloves as your fingers need to have freedom of movement while you are playing any hockey match.
For new players, purchasing a hockey stick can be a tough job. New players can always go for simple and cheap wooden sticks as their performance on the field does not depend on the type of stick they are using. A regular wooden stick is as good as a carbon fiber stick. Some of the other basic gear that you would need for hockey games include jocks and hockey pants. The jocks protect your sensitive areas and pants should be chosen while keeping your comfort level in mind.
