Keep Your Best Memories By Printing Your Photos On Film

In the digital age of smartphones with high-resolution camera, people are so engrossed by photos, whether it’s in your photo gallery or in friend’s social media page. But the fact is, those photos aren’t real; they are just a collection of colorful dots on a screen. They can be deleted, or swept away by the newsfeed. When it comes to preserving your sweetest memories, it is best to have a tangible copy of a photo. Lots of people still prefer to have their photos printed to immortalize the best of times, whether it’s your firstborn’s childhood or the family’s holiday celebrations through the years. This desire to hold on to what is real is the reason why films and film photography still remain, even in the virtual age.

Traditional Or Modern? Types of Films To Use

There are two main types of photographic films for sale in the Philippines. The most popular type now is the instant film. With the use of an instant camera, the user can have a tangible image within minutes. This rectangular film has a packet of chemicals that spreads across the surface and develops the image. This kind of film is often called “Instax” after the popular brand that sells it. This is a hit among young adults and families because they can have a pocket-sized memorabilia almost immediately and at a low cost. However, films are one-time use, so once you’ve finished your pack, you need to purchase another set. Traditional photographic films are still available on the market, and are well-liked among photographers and enthusiasts. These films have to be developed through a chemical process. Many professional photo shops offer this service, but some photographers have taught themselves how to do this. Whichever type of film you are most comfortable using, you can buy films online by heading to your favorite shopping website.

    Traditional Photographic Film

  • Film description: It is a thin sheet of semi-transparent plastic coated with light sensitive chemicals. The sensitivity, contrast, and resolution of the film determine the size of the photograph, which are typically 35mm, medium format, or large format. This film is produced in canisters. After a roll is completed, it is sent to a professional printing shop where it undergoes a chemical process in a dark room. Some photo enthusiasts know how to develop the photos themselves.
  • Camera type: One would need a film camera, which is heavier and thicker than a point-and-shoot. Most have leather and metal casings to protect the film inside. The camera has a film winder on one side to move the strip along when taking photos.
  • Advantages: This is preferred by knowledgeable photographers who understand and practice photography principles because they are able to control the camera’s settings to achieve their ideal result. They can make changes in the photograph in the developing stage, and can have the photographs developed in various sizes.

    Instant Film

  • Film description: This special film comes in packs that are loaded into the instant camera. Each sheet has a packet of chemical needed to produce the image. These are spread across the film as it exits the camera, developing the picture.
  • Camera type: Instant photography requires a special instant camera. Often known as a Polaroid camera, it is a thick camera with a powerful flash. The slot where the picture exits is located at the bottom. Older versions of this were large bulky devices, but modernized models are smaller, lighter, and stylish. Some have controls that can manipulate the brightness and the color of the flash.
  • Advantages: This type is popular among teenagers, young adults, and families because it allows users to have an immediate photograph that they can keep or give away without having to experience the trouble of going to a photo printing shop.
