While you may be bombarded with several different types of computer models whenever you venture out to look for them, essentially all computers have the same components. It is true that each model is unique from the other in some way, whether it is its battery life, its design, its display type or even its color. But, it is important to remember that all of them contain the same basic smaller components. These smaller components come together to provide you with the helpful gadget which is the computer that you know and love.
The variations in each computer model do not come from the computer components but from the quality of these components and the way in which these components connect together to make the device that you use. Usually, a basic computer consists of a case or a frame, a power supply component, a motherboard, a central processing unit or CPU (the most important component of any computer), the main memory system and a hard disk drive. Keyboards, mouse, scanners are different types of input devices. Output devices include a monitor, speaker, and a printer.
Each component heats up when in use and cool down when they are not. When one component fails, another one does not necessarily need to do the same. With desktop computers, each piece of hardware can usually be replaced individually without needing to rebuild the entire computer system.
Computers come in different sizes. They can be classified as either desktop computers or portable computer. Portable computers, as the name suggest, are compact and easy to carry around. In a portable computer, the PC components are more compact and concise. They are essentially the same as the computer components but these components are compact and lend the portable computer a sleek, slim and compact look. Having compact components allows portable components to be concise and allows them to be easily transported from one place to another. Portable computers are quite efficient for some individuals as you can work on it anywhere at any time.
In conclusion, while there may be several different types of models of desktops and portable computers in the market at markedly different prices, it is not because they have some “extra”. All components of a computer are essentially the same; however, the differences in models and pricing are there because of the quality of these different components. Components of a computer are constantly being improved upon and new technology is being added to them quite often, so you not only find different models of computers but different models of computer components as well. So, while the components of a computer may be the same, their technology is not. This is the reason why some model fare well in the market while other ones fall behind in the race.
