Originating in England as early as the 1800s, the popularity of Baseball grew over the years and took the world by storm. Baseball is a game that involves a bat and a ball and it is played between 2 teams who take turns to bat or field. The teams are comprised of 9 players on each side. A player from the fielding side throws a ball to the batter from the batting team who tries to hit it with the bat. The player throwing the ball is referred to as the Pitcher. The batting team tries to hit the ball as far as possible within the field of play and score maximum runs. Runs are collected by running to the next base. There is a total of 4 bases and each is manned by a player from the batting team who run to the next base in the anti-clockwise direction. When each runner complete transition to the next base successfully, the batting team scores a run.
The motive of the fielding team is to ensure they catch the ball that was hit and throw it back to the pitcher before the runner makes it to the base. This results in the batter getting out, and he has to leave the field to be replaced by another batter from his team. A team can be out if the fielding team manage to secure 3 outs by either running out the batter on 3 occasions or by ensuring the batter misses to hit the ball. There is a total of 9 innings to be played in Baseball and in the end, the team with the most runs wins. In the case of scores being tied, extra innings are played as Baseball has no time restrictions to it, unlike many other major sports.
The most important equipment used in Baseball sports is the Baseball bat. A regulation Baseball bat is made out of Aluminium Alloy and comes at length varying between 24 to 26 inches. The end with which the ball is struck is referred to as the head of the bat and that has a diameter of roughly around 2 to 3 inches. With a thickness of an inch towards the handle, it provides with perfect grip for the batter to swing across and aim to attain the maximum distance while striking the ball. The bat is manufactured and processed using a hard-anodizing finish which ensures the bat is hard enough and has a very strong endurance. A rubber grip is attached in certain bats to provide with an extra grip and it also helps by absorbing shock while striking the ball with force.
Another major equipment required is the ball itself. The most sought after one is the Official League Baseball which comes with a diameter of 9 inches. With a raised seam and a leather cover, the baseball sports official baseball is made using solid cork and has a solid rubber center. It makes an ideal use for professional as well as training purposes.
