Owning a car isn't the end. You also need to take proper measures to make sure that the car is safe and protected. One of the best ways to do so is by buying car covers. Covers for cars are great to protect your car from the damaging effect of acid rain, ultraviolet radiations, bird droppings, sun fading, claws of animals, wind-borne particles and even thieves when it is parked outdoors. Inside the garage, the car cover protects the vehicle from airborne dirt as well as foot borne varmints.
Apart from the waterproof cover, there are two other varieties of car covers – breathable or water resistant and the non-water resistant. Each of the varieties has their own advantages and disadvantages. The waterproof car covers are usually a plastic coated fabric or a plastic film that keep the rain off the car. But, it traps the condensation between the car and the cover. The plastic variety of waterproof cover is of great use if the car is stored during winter times in a garage. The maximum result can be derived if a flannel cloth cover is used between the car and the plastic cover as an outer shield. While the flannel cloth cover keeps the moisture at bay, the plastic one adds a tougher protective outer shield. You can also place desiccants in the bag so that it can absorb the extra moisture.
The second type of auto covers – breathable or the water resistant – is available in a variety of weights, fabrics, and types. This type of covers resist most of the water inflow and yet gives provision for air circulation thus preventing condensation. Most of these covers have ultraviolet screens which are woven into the mesh. This helps them withstand the degradation due to sunlight exposure. Also, they are mildew resistant. All the varieties of car covers, including the waterproof cover, are available in various colors as well.
Water resistant auto covers are also available with breathable polyester or nylon outer layer. These covers are available with an acrylic inner lining which is foamed. This combination is not completely resistant to water, rather it filters the water and allows only clean water to pass through the cover. But when it comes to protection from acid rain, waterproof cover is the best option. It gives complete protection to the car not only from acid rain but also from the Sun and any kind of adverse weather conditions.
The third most popular type of auto covers is the 100% polyester or cotton cover available in a regular cloth style or flannel style. Among these two, the 100% cotton is preferable as they give better protection to the car paint from scratches. They are preferred for indoor uses as they are not at all water resistant. The 100% cotton with a flannel cover is often considered the most gentle on the paint. But considering protection from rain, sun, and dust, waterproof cover is regarded as the safest but as it allows condensation to form the cover need to be removed once in a while to avoid any such situation.
