The console wars began when PlayStation fired its first shot

For a long time, Sony has been quite known as a worldwide leader of consumer electronics. This Japanese brand has proven yearly why they are the powerhouse from TVs, to audio, to mobile devices. Eventually, the Sony PlayStation even got a hold of video games, firing the first shot of the console wars, and pioneering what will eventually become the gaming industry.

The Sony PlayStation was first introduced on the market in 1994. This console was one of a kind because introduced the prospect of games that could be played by teens and young adults. Soon, the console transitioned into the PS2 in 2000, evolving once again into the PS3 in 2006, and finally into the PS4, introduced in 2013. In these years, Sony provided the different types of gamer avenues to play the games they like, incorporating the modern technologies to make their games as realistic as possible.

Sony’s conquest in the gaming world didn’t stop in the home console category. In 2004, the brand released the PlayStation Portable or PSP to the public. This handheld console allowed gamers to play their favorite PS2 games on the go. The PSP also had a unique interface that would eventually be incorporated for the PS3. In terms of hardware, accessibility, and games, the PSP was technically the best handheld console, until the release of the PS Vita in 2011.
