Humble Beginnings of Casio
Casio Computer Company, Limited or more commonly known as Casio is a multinational electronics manufacturing company whose headquarters is located in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Their products mainly include calculators, mobile phones, cameras, musical instruments and watches. Casio was founded in 1946 by Tadao Kashio, an engineer who specializes in fabrication technology. His first invention was called the “yubiwa pipe”. It is a finger ring that can hold a cigarette, letting the wearer to smoke the cigarette and at the same time leaving the wearer's hands unrestricted. A few years later, Kashio and his brother decided to develop their very own electric calculators after seeing one in a Business Show in Ginza using their profits from the yubiwa pipe. And in 1957, they finally released the world's first entirely electric compact calculator.
That’s how Casio began in the business before venturing to more electronics such as musical instruments, cameras, and watches. In the 1980’s, Casio’s budget electronic instruments and home musical keyboard instruments gained huge fame. They also garnered a lot of recognition because of the wide variety and innovation of Casio wristwatches. Casio was one of the initial makers of quartz watches, both digital and analog. It also began selling innovations like the calculator watches during this time. It was one of the first developers of watches that could display the time in a variety of different time zones as well as watches with temperature, atmospheric-pressure, altitude, and even Global Positioning System displays.
